Bucket Elevators

Bucket elevators are one of the most convenient and efficient ways to elevate bulk materials vertically and horizontally.

A quality bucket elevator enables ease of movement of bulk materials on site for greater speed, efficiency, and even safety over other options.

A bucket elevator consists of a series of buckets that are attached to a belt or chain with pulleys or sprockets located at the top and bottom of the unit. Buckets move vertically or at an upward angle to distribute material to many heights and distances.

Lapp Millwright has been installing and servicing bucket elevators for over 6 years and our team members have over 20 years of industry experience. Types of Bucket Elevators

Three primary types of bucket elevators help facilities and business owners like you get work done quickly:

Centrifugal

Also known as gravity discharge elevators, centrifugal bucket elevators are the most common type of bucket elevator for most applications we deal in. These systems rely on the centrifugal force of the bucket's motion to help "throw" the material very short distances from the bucket, often onto conveyers or belts.

Continuous

Also known as positive discharge elevators, continuous bucket elevators use a series of buckets that are attached to each other and move in a loop without stopping, often faster than other bucket elevators. They tend to dump their contents downward rather than outward. They are more common with finer grains and powders.

Positive Discharge

Positive discharge bucket elevators move material using buckets with paddles or lugs that keep the material in the bucket until it reaches the discharge point. These are generally reserved for specific applications that may have some element of fragility.

Bucket Elevator Capacity

The capacity of a bucket elevator is determined by two things: volume of material to be moved and type of material to be moved.

For most grain or feed bucket elevator applications, we recommend using centrifugal bucket elevators. These systems are the most common and efficient for moving large quantities of materials.

The actual capacity will vary depending on material, and Lapp Millwright can help you find the right solution for your budget.

Bucket Elevators Versus Augur Elevators

There are two main types of elevators used for moving materials: bucket elevators and screw-type (auger) elevators. While both have their advantages, bucket elevators tend to be more versatile and efficient for most high-touch applications.

Bucket elevators can be used for a variety of materials, including grain, feed, millings, and more. They are also more efficient for vertical transportation, as they rely on gravity to help move the material.

Auger elevators, on the other hand, are better suited for moving smaller quantities of material over shorter distances, horizontal transportation, or for moving materials that are too heavy or dense for bucket elevators, like silage. They’re also often used in conjunction with other conveyance systems like belt or chain conveyors.

If you’re not sure which type of elevator is right for your project, Lapp Millwright can help. We can assess your needs and recommend the best solution for your budget, with extensive experience with elevators in a variety of applications.

Bucket Elevators for Grain and Feed Applications

Imagine if your farm didn’t come to a standstill every time you needed to move bulk feed or grain between buildings or storage facilities.

What if you could automate feeding, no matter where your feed solution is coming from on the farm?

Bucket elevators are a go-to solution for agricultural purposes nationwide. They’re versatile, efficient, and provide a consistent flow of materials for everything from small farms to large commercial feed mills.

At Lapp Millwright, we’ve supplied bucket elevators for grain and feed applications of all kinds, from small family farms to large commercial facilities. We can help you find the right elevator for your needs, whether you’re moving corn, soybeans, wheat, feed, millings, or any other type of agricultural product.

We offer both centrifugal and continuous bucket elevators in a variety of sizes and capacities to suit your project. And our team of experienced engineers will work with you from start to finish to ensure a smooth installation and seamless operation.

Bucket Elevators for Mineral and Landscape or Excavation Materials

Bucket elevators are loved for their versatility. Unlike augur-style elevators, bucket elevators can move free-flowing, abrasive, and atypically formed materials great distances and even great weights.

As a result, bucket elevators are an excellent solution for the excavation, mining, and even landscaping materials industries.

Bucket elevators are a common solution for moving mineral and landscape materials like sand, gravel, and limestone. They offer a safe and efficient way to transport large quantities of material from one point to another. Because design and material can be so specialized, the options are virtually endless when it comes to bucket elevator applications.

At Lapp Millwright, we can supply bucket elevators for all types of mineral and landscape applications, like wood chips, topsoil, sand and gravel, and so much more.
